New Mexico Army National Guard Support

NEW MEXICO nATIONAL GUARD

YOUTH CHALLENGE ACADEMY

The New Mexico National Guard Youth ChalleNGe Academy (NMYCA) is a life-changing program designed to empower at-risk youth by providing education, leadership training, character development, and essential life skills. Operated by the Department of Military Affairs, the academy runs two residential classes each year, offering a structured, military-based environment for high school dropouts seeking a second chance.

The 17 ½-month program consists of a 22-week Residential Phase, where cadets engage in academic instruction, physical training, and personal growth activities, followed by a one-year Post-Residential Phase, ensuring continued mentorship and support. Through discipline, mentorship, and hands-on training, NMYCA equips young men and women with the tools to become responsible, productive citizens of New Mexico.
